Chromatic Orb
Chromatic Orb is a versatile power that lets players choose from a number of different types of damage. One of these choices is lightning. Chromatic Orb has some problems. Being flexible makes it useful for fighting enemies that are resistant to certain types of damage, since Snow Rider 3D players can pick damage types that the enemy isn’t resistant to. As a level one weapon, its main effect is that it does not deal a lot of damage.
Second, it’s a long attack spell that has a small area of effect around the thing or creature you target that electrocutes enemies who stand in it for the next round. This can help, but it usually limits the number of enemies you can hit because any friends caught in its range will also be shocked. A summoning power that sorcerers and wizards can use is Chromatic Orb. Chromatic Orb can also be used as a bard’s magical secret, as a subclass of the eldritch knight fighter, or as a subclass of the arcane trickster rogue.
Lightning Arrow
The ranger class has its own transformation spell called Lightning Arrow. It adds lightning damage to a ranger’s ranged weapon hits, and nearby enemies are hurt by smaller bolts of lightning that spread out over a large area. Although helpful and one of a kind, it is in the same group as Chromatic Orb. It can be hard to use Lightning Arrow without hurting people who are on your side.
Rangers should not depend on their spellcasting, though, since they are mostly a ranged weapon class. The highest level a ranger can get is level three, which means that Lightning Arrow does a lot of damage. It’s worth using when you can, but it’s not the best lightning spell to use all the time. The only thing it does is give rangers the chance to use lightning’s power!
Shocking Grasp
Even though Shocking Grasp is only a cantrip, don’t think it’s weak. One cool thing about it is that it does a cool trick. It does 1d8 damage instead of 1d10 damage like the popular Fire Bolt cantrip. If a player hits a target with Shocking Grasp, it will stop reacting. This means they can dart in, give damage, and then run away without prompting an opportunity attack.
Since attacks against people wearing metal armor are more likely to hit, this is a close-range spell attack that is very likely to hit. The fact that it’s a direct spell attack means that the person casting it has to be pretty close to the target. The evocation cantrip Shocking Grasp can be used by wizards, sorcerers, rogue magical tricksters, and eldritch knight fighters.
Witch Bolt
Witch Bolt is a ranged magic attack that sends a beam of lightning from the caster to the target for up to ten turns. Once linked, the caster can do the damage every turn without having to use a spell slot or roll another attack.
Witch Bolt does a surprising amount of damage, even on its first beam, and even more when the caster uses that damage every round! It can feel like a waste of a spell slot if the attack misses or the caster loses focus early on. Plus, it’s only a level 1 spell! Wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks can all use Witch Bolt, a conjuring spell. Norse trickster rogues and eldritch knight warriors can also use it.
Call Lightning
Call Lightning is like Witch Bolt if it spread out over a large area and could never miss. The caster of this level 3 conjuration spell can call for lightning to hit anywhere in an area, which could hurt more than one enemy. Being able to move this spell around friends is often easier because it hits a broad area instead of a specific target.
Anyone in its area must make a skill save, and if they succeed, they still take half the damage. After the first attack, casters can keep their focus to call up the storm again, this time in a different place if they want, without using up a spell slot. Druids, sorcerers, tempest priests, pact of the tome warlocks, and bards who know how to use magic can use Call Lightning.
Lightning Bolt
Lightning Bolt is one of the most powerful lightning spells in Baldur’s Gate 3, even though it works in a very simple way. As it is cast, a lightning bolt strikes thirty meters away in a straight line. If someone is caught in the beam, they must make a skill save or take half the damage. Any success will lessen the damage.
It’s not too wide or too narrow. It’s just the right size to catch a lot of enemies. Just barely wide enough to fire between friends. It is a third-level evocation spell that does a lot of damage and can be used by sorcerers, wizards, and bards who know magic. Anyone who can cast spells should learn this one.
Chain Lightning
It might not be a surprise that the number one spot lightning spell is much stronger than the others. Chain Lightning is an evocation spell of level six, three levels higher than the previous highest lightning spell. It is also the highest level a spellcaster can get in the game. The person being attacked by a caster must make a skill saving throw. If they succeed, they take half as much damage as the strike.
The “chain” part of the spell is made up of up to three lightning bolts that can jump off the target and hit up to three enemies within eighteen meters. The lightning spell looks amazing, does a lot of damage, has a large area of effect, and does half as much damage even if the save succeeds. It can only be used by sorcerers and witches, and it will make their enemies spark and burn.
