Exosome imaging and analysis can be done very sensitively using nanoparticle tracking analysis. This technique allows for the direct visualization of light dispersed from an exosome or microvesicle suspended in liquid. A thin layer of the sample suspended in liquid is refractory to a laser beam that has been carefully focussed as it travels across an optical interface. Exosomes and microvesicles in the laser beam’s path scatter light, which is subsequently collected by a light microscope and photographed. Data that makes it easier to determine the overall particle count and size distribution are plots of scattered light spots and their speed of motion.
