How To Draw A Cartoon Donkey

Step 1

In this first step of this tutorial on how to draw a cartoon donkey, we’ll start by outlining the donkey’s head, back, and legs.

Starting from the top, we first draw large, rounded ears with a small point at the top. Next, you can draw a small mane that goes between the ears.

This can be drawn with a combination of curved and pointed lines, while the back of the head is drawn with a simple rounded line.

The back of the head runs in a curved line up to the back of the donkey and then we can finish with the hind leg. Once everyone is drawn, we can move on to step 2!

Step 2

To continue with this cartoon donkey drawing we are now going to add the head and chest to the outline.

These are drawn with smoother, curved lines. There will also be an empty, curved space in the front of the face that we’ll fill soon.

The bust line will be longer and more curved and once it’s drawn we can move on to step 3.

Step 3

For this third step of the pattern, we’re going to add more legs to the donkey. The front leg will be much slimmer and straighter than the back leg you drew earlier.

It will also end up with a rounded hoof. Next we draw the belly with a curved line and add another small leg on the other side of the body.

Because of the angle, we’re only going to see a small portion of this leg. Then you are done with this step!

Step 4

In step 4 of this how to draw a cartoon donkey tutorial, we will draw the donkey’s mouth.

This will be pasted into the empty space you previously left at the front of the face and drawn as a separate piece. It is quite large and round with an elongated smiling mouth inside.

There will also be a small bump at the top for a nostril. That’s all for this step, so let’s move on!

Step 5

In this fifth step of the guide we will draw attention to the facial features of this donkey. First, draw some large, rounded shapes for the outlines of the eyes.

Then in each there is a small oval with an even smaller black oval for the pupil.

The next detail will be the donkey’s nostril. This can be drawn with a rounded line with a small black shape inside.

Once these face details are complete, we can move on to some final details in the next step of the guide!

Step 6

You are now ready to finish this cartoon donkey drawing with some final details. Once you’ve drawn it, the last step is to color your creation!

First we’ll add a tail that will be thin and wavy. It will be quite short and there will be a thick tuft of hair at the end.

Finally, let’s add a leg. This one is lifted and folded and the base looks the same as the others.

Once these details are added you can also draw a fun background or maybe add more animal friends!

Step 7

In this last step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon donkey, we’ll finish with some colors!

In our reference image, we chose different light shades of brown for the donkey’s body, and then darker shades for the main body, hooves, and tail.

These are the colors we chose, but now you can show us which colors you think would go best with this donkey.

Will you choose a different color scheme, or maybe try a similar color scheme to our example? Whatever you choose, it will look great in its own way and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!
