Melanoma Biomarkers

Melanoma Biomarkers

The most used method of diagnosing melanoma is visual inspection. The “ABCDE” acronym is a widely used memory aid for melanoma signs and symptoms. It comprises five essential components, namely asymmetry, border, color, dimension, and growing. Asymmetry, an uneven border, and several colors are common characteristics of a lesion that may represent melanoma. Melanomas are more common in moles larger than 6 mm in size, and evolving moles may be cause for concern. Even though these common standards are frequently applied to accurately identify possible melanomas, there are situations in which melanoma instances exist even in the absence of these standards. For example, a large number of melanomas appear as lesions with a diameter of less than 6 mm.
