6 Interesting Places to Visit in Santa Marta

Plan a trip to this beautiful city of Santa Marta with Copa flight ticket and enjoy your vacation in Santa Marta.

Before coming to Santa Marta, Colombia (my second visit in two years), I researched the various activities to do in Santa Marta. Plan a trip to this beautiful city of Santa Marta with Copa flight ticket and enjoy your vacation in Santa Marta.

Interesting Places to Visit in Santa Marta:

1. Go Sailing

Not only does Cartagena have beautiful islands, beaches, and boat trips. In fact, a full-day sailing cruise in Santa Marta is not only spectacular but also reasonable! There will also be islands, jungle scenery, and mountains to see.

The view near Santa Marta is spectacular, and you should see it from the boat. We took this sailing excursion, which included stops at two beautiful beaches as well as a visit to Tayrona National Park’s sole island. It included lunch, snacks, and snorkelling equipment for only $55 USD per person! With Luis leading the tour, you’re in good hands.

2. Restaurante Burukuka

If you want to have a drink or a meal while admiring the vista, go to Restaurant Burukuka in Santa Marta. This restaurant in El Rodadero is on a hill overlooking the ocean and beach.

It’s stunning, especially around sunset! A taxi from Santa Marta to the restaurant costs about 15,000 COP ($3.20 USD). We ate here and had a great time! Daniel still can’t get enough of the seafood spaghetti! It is, but, very popular, so we recommend scheduling a table on the terrace ahead of time to ensure your space!

3. Lost City Trek

The 4-day Lost City journey is getting popular. We had heard of anyone doing it on our first visit to Santa Marta. But now, with to amazing reviews and excellent tours, it appears to be on everyone’s list of things to do in Santa Marta!

You will explore “Cuidad Perdida,” or the “Lost City,” an old ruins complex. To be honest, it’s not as impressive as Machu Picchu, but it’s still a fantastic vacation. The only way to see the Lost City is on a 4-day guided trekking excursion. But, as before stated, it is a wonderful experience that is unique to Colombia and departs from Santa Marta!

4. Village of Taganga

Is the city’s hustle and bustle too much for you? Only a 10-minute drive away is the town of Taganga! Although Taganga isn’t particularly “nice” by most Western standards, this tiny fishing village is ideal for a few hours (or maybe a night or two!) A beachside restaurant meal can cost for as little as 15,000 COP ($3.19 USD) and drinks as cheap as 3,500 COP ($0.75 USD). Our favourite activity, however, is going to the beach and drinking Pina Coladas while viewing the sunsets!

5. Playa Grande

You can take a boat from Taganga’s beach to a stunning tranquil harbour and beach named Playa Grande for about 10,000 COP ($2 USD). The boat ride is only 10 minutes long. The lake is a vivid blue that contrasts oddly but beautifully with the dry mountains.

At Playa Grande, there are many restaurants, as well as chairs to hire (5,000 COP/$1 USD), jet skis, and snorkel trips. We had a great time hanging out here for a couple of hours one afternoon. Hiking to Playa Grande from Taganga is also an option. It’s only a 20-minute walk, but it’s very steep, and robberies have been recorded on the trail, so the boat is your best bet!

6. Food Tour

Food tours are among our favourite activities to do in cities throughout the world! The simplest method for acquiring knowledge regarding a destination’s customs and manner of life is through its food. Plus, what cannot desire to sample a variety of wonderful foods?

This Santa Marta culinary tour includes a variety of local food sampling and costs only $38 USD! You’ll take a walking tour of the city, stopping along the way to sample many local favourites and learn about the history of food. It’s a grassroots tour that takes you to a variety of family-owned restaurants while teaching you about the food that defines Santa Marta.
