Other Non-IgG Antibodies

The five primary immunoglobulin isotypes found in most animals are IgM, IgD, IgG, IgA, and IgE. Other species do, however, also have distinct immunoglobulin isotypes and structures.

IgW

Cartilage-forming fish contain IgW, which is similar to IgD in other vertebrates. One of the earliest isoforms in Igs is IgW. It is noteworthy to add that strong evidence points to an uncommon type of IgM and IgW class-switching recombination.

IgNAR

Sharks produce a special immunoglobulin neoantigen receptor (IgNAR) in addition to traditional antibodies. IgNAR antibodies are heavy chain homodimers with an antigen-binding domain attached to the end of each chain. Notably, a single domain known as vNAR alone mediates antigen binding.
